Simley Girls Volleyball celebrated Senior Night when Mahtomedi visited on Tuesday, October 16th. Every year the team tries to play its best for its seniors and this night the Spartans may have played their best match of the season to send Libero Sydney Brady, Middle Hitter Adara Kellogg, and Setter Rachel Wanger out in style. Always a tough opponent, the Zephyrs did not know what hit them as Simley dominated all phases of the game to win comfortably in straight sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-19. The third set was not as close as the score may indicate as the Spartans led closely throughout before a late surge erased any doubt as to the outcome. Sydney Brady anchored the back row on defense and serve receive (2.3), while Adara Kellogg continued her season-long offensive onslaught (.615 hitting), and Rachel Wanger put up 30 assists. Every group of seniors is unique. Every group of seniors is special. Every group of seniors defines itself. This year, the Spartan Volleyball Seniors brought great competitiveness, intensity, and joy into the gym every day. Whether it was Sydney lighting up the gym with a level of energy that could power the east coast or D1 Adara becoming unstoppable at the net, or Rachel just being Rachel, setting up the nets every day, blossoming as a setter, and always being the first with a kind word to a teammate these women came along with their teammates on the joyful journey of the 2018 season. Every group of seniors is asked to do a little bit more than the rest of the younger players: run a little faster, work a little harder, jump a little higher, and lead a little better. Our 2018 seniors replied. “No worries, this is a special season with a special group of people.” Congratulations Seniors and thank you.
