The Spartans Girls Golf Team made their first ever appearance in the Jordan Invitational on Monday at the Ridges at Sand Creek. The difficult golf course and challenging weather were a great early season test for the Spartans. The team proved that they were ready, and ended the day as the champions of the Jordan Invitational. Senior Taylor Pawlenty had the low round in her playing group, highlighted by a great par in the challenging 17th hole. Senior Erin Borchard followed suit with the low round in her group aided by paring both par 3s on the front nine. Senior Sara Borchard had her best performance of the early season with a remarkably consistent round that started the team scoring on a great note. Sophomore Ashleigh Skappel continued her great play this season with another low round and great ball striking all day. Freshman Reese McCauley overcame a difficult first hole to play the rest of the round at 1-under par, finishing with the second lowest round of the tournament. Her 73 included back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes, and an array of short game shots that any golfer can admire. Junior Captain Isabella McCauley had an interesting day. Her 2-under par 70 featured a unique back 9 scorecard with only one par. The birdie / bogie barrage on the back nine may have added some drama, but the end result was the low round of the day and medalist honors for Bella. The Spartans will make the trip to Loggers Trail tomorrow to face the entire Metro-East conference in the mid-conference 18 hole match. Go Spartans!
