Simley Girls Volleyball celebrated its shortest road trip of the season with its shortest victory of the season over rival South St. Paul on Thursday, September 27th, in straight sets 25-13, 25-15, 25-21. The win was the shortest not because the Nuggets, who are short, played outstanding (a combined 2.4 on serve receive and extraordinary digging at 94%, while serving 100%), but because the Spartans had their best team-wide statistical match of the season: 2.35 passing, .500 hitting, 94% serving, and 84% digging. Individual contributions were too numerous to mention, but highlights included Sophomore Nugget Brynn Rogers passing at a 2.7 clip, Juniors Jackie Stickler and Ellie Lanik both hitting .400 and serving 100%, and Junior Outside Hitter Raven Miles who registered 13 kills in only 19 swings. Much of the offensive success was due to the sweet sets delivered all night long, with Sophomore Abby Hepper picking up 15 assists in set 2 alone. It was a great night for all levels of Simley’s volleyball program as the Spartans won all matches in straight sets with the 9th grade team rolling over the Packers, the Junior Varsity dominating early and often, and the B-Squad offering a bit of hope early to SSP before slamming the door. Reports on the bus after the matches described the operative term of the B-squad victory as “Cute.”
