Congratulations to the Simley Girls Volleyball team for its straight set victory over South St. Paul on Thursday, September 26th. It was teacher night for the Simley Squad and a heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to the teachers in attendance who saw a mercifully quick match. The good news for the Packers was they played some of their best volleyball of the season. The bad news was that the Spartans continued their strong play through the middle of the Metro East season and easily took the match 25-16, 25-13, 25-8. The strong blocking that has become a hallmark of the 2019 team continued as SSP was hard pressed to get the ball past Senior middles Tiwaah Danso and Jackie Stickler, as well as Junior Abby Hepper and Sophomore Acheampomaah Danso. Senior outside hitters Ellie Lanik, Emma Heimerl, and Sydney Stensgard scored at will, while the Nuggets (Juniors Brynn Rogers and Molly Stein and Sophomore Isabella Studer) anchored the back row. Sophomore Lauren Tuccitto saw extended setting time and responded consistently delivering the ball to attackable spots to all hitting positions. And a special nod to third-on-the-depth chart setter Sydney Stensgard for her one assist in the setting position in the 2019 campaign. Well done Spartans.
