Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids played host this week to the Minnesota AAA Class Golf State Tournament. Simley girls golf was represented for the second straight year by 8th grader Isabella McCauley, who earned her way into the tournament as the 2018 AAA Section 3 medalist. McCauley, once again, made her teammates and supporters proud with her poise and grit on full display in the two-day tournament. In the first round McCauley battled a few tough bounces, and more than a few putts that refused to fall, to end the day in a five-way tie for 11th place. She started the fireworks early in round two when she sank a 25’ putt on the first hole for birdie. Great ball striking, solid decision making, and a few key putts that found the bottom of the cup became the theme of her second round. Great Birdies on the 3rd, 5th, and 17th holes of the day helped McCauley post the lowest round shot on the final day of the tournament, 72, and earned her a spot on the podium surging from a tie for 11th into a 6th place overall finish. This is the second straight top-ten finish for McCauley in the state tournament (T-9 last year).
