For the second straight year, and the second time in the history of the girls’ golf program at Simley, the Spartans girls golf team participated in the Section 3AAA finals at Bunker Hills. After qualifying for the finals on Friday the Spartans were in position to secure the best-ever finish for the program in the Section, but they needed another solid day of scoring to realize that goal. Senior Kylie Seeling was the first Spartan to tee off on Monday, and the tee shot she sent flying straight down the first hole set the tone for the entire team. Every Spartan followed suit with a great tee shot off the first tee, and then great play for the rest of the round. Seeling started the scoring with one of the best rounds of her career. Senior Abby Stein duplicated her great round from Friday to put the Spartans in a strong position, and Junior Rachael Wolfe and Eighth Grader Isabella McCauley took care of the rest. Wolfe improved on her Friday round by one stroke, and McCauley used another round of great ball striking on her way to a 73. McCauley’s 73 secured the best-ever 3rd place finish for the Spartans’ as well as earned her a trip to the state tournament as the medalist from section 3AAA for the 2nd straight year. The state golf tournament will take place at Bunker Hills Golf Course next Tuesday and Wednesday.
