The Simley Girls golf team started the week off right as they faced off against North St. Paul at Goodrich Golf Club on Monday. A varsity squad that is deep in talent hit the links with two newcomers to the line-up who showed that they were more than ready. Freshman Sara Borchard hit some of the best iron shots of the day, and finished in sixth place overall. Junior Molly Illetschko finished the day in fourth place, and hit several drives so straight and far that gravity seemed to have forgotten about her ball for a moment. Junior Captain Rachael Wolfe continued her steady play, and dazzled everyone with dead eye tee shots on both par 3’s. Senior Captain Britta Iverson capped off her best round of the year with a tap-in par on the last hole, sealing a second place finish. The low round of the day went to eighth grader Isabella McCauley, who showed her grit by paring the last 6 holes to take medalist honors. The Spartans continue a busy week at the Red Wing Invitational on Tuesday.
