A visit from last years team captains Emma Johnson and Annika Iverson was just the spark that the Spartans needed as they faced their third match of the week against conference front-runner Hill Murray on the back nine at Inver Wood on Thursday. The team needed every player to be at their best to inch closer in the standings before next weeks all-important conference final, and that is exactly what happened. Junior Molly Illetschko and senior captain Britta Iverson put their experience on display, using great shot making and decision making to save important strokes. Iverson started the day playing the difficult par 5 tenth hole to perfection, complimented by Illetscko’s perfect drive on 18, book ending great rounds. Sophomore Anna Ahern hit a drive so far on the 15th hole that even she didn’t believe how far down the fairway it traveled, and she followed up her long game display with back-to-back one puts on the 16th and 17th greens. Jordan Juers finished off her best round of the year by splitting the upper fairway on the 18th with a pin-point drive, followed by a solid iron to the 18th green that secured a third place finish for the up-and-coming Sophomore. Simley eighth grader Isabella McCauley had a clinical ball striking day, reaching every green in regulation on her way to a 2 under 34. The Spartans will enjoy a much needed break this weekend before the tri-city championship on Monday.
