The Simley Girls Golf Team hosted conference opponent Hill-Murray at Inver Wood on Thursday. The dual match was the third contest of the week for the Spartans, but they showed no signs of being tired. Not even a parade of baby turtles could slow down the Spartans conference win streak. Senior captain Callie Gustafson overcame a slow start with a strong finish that included a beautiful one-putt par on the difficult 7th hole. Senior captain Sophia Roche powered her way around the front nine at Inver Wood to turn in a great score despite several bad bounces and unlucky breaks. Sophomore Ashleigh Skappel set the tone for her round with a beautiful shot from a difficult lie on the second hole that ended up just feet from the green and to get the scoring started for the team. Senior Sara Borchard picked up right where she left off after her last round by paring three of the first four holes and finishing with the lowest 9-hole score of her competitive career. Freshman Reese McCauley hit several shots that wowed those lucky enough to see them. The shot of the day came on the ninth hole when Reese made a spectacular up-down from a difficult lie behind the 9th green to finish with an impressive even-par round of 36. Junior Captain Isabella McCauley added another medalist finish to her resume. Bella’s bookend birdies coupled with a beautiful birdie on the fourth hole completed her round of 33 (-3), the lowest mark at Inver Wood in team history. It was a great day to be a Spartan. Go Spartans!
