The Simley girls basketball team has had a season to remember. A lot of emotions through out the season, some really low and some really high.

The team had lost two players to season ending injuries, one player with a bruised knee and multiple players get sick through out the season. We had a game get cancelled 3 times because of weather. Thru all the ups and downs the season came down to the last week and Simley had play 3 games all away. First up Simley had a great 2nd half and took down Tartan, second up a good 2nd half to beat Mahtomedi, last up the tough environment at Hill Murray.

It was hard to believe after everything during the season that we were playing for the Conference Championship the last game of the season. Both teams had a record of 12-1 with Simley beating Hill Murray at home. It sounds like the Perfect Storm to me.

Simley jumped out to an early lead 17-6 and Hill Murray looked a little flustered. However, after 2 HM early timeouts they settled down and went on a big run and lead 26-29. Simley went into the half down by 2 points 30-32.

The 2nd half was an incredible half of basketball by both teams. Both teams shot really well. At one point I told Logan the teams must be shooting 80%. Around the 6-7 minute mark HM started to miss and Simley didn’t and they pulled away to take a 60-52 lead with about 3 minutes left. HM got hot again and started coming back and Simley was trying to hang on. With Simley up 62-61 HM got a break away layup and Simley fouled them. HM player missed the 1st FT and made the 2nd FT to tie the game 62-62. Simley had the ball and was moving it around, but ended up losing the ball. HM regained possession with under 20 seconds to try win the game. Zareia was playing good defense on the HM point guard and forced her to pass the ball to the wing and when the wing passed to ball back to the top Sydney stepped in front of the pass with 5 seconds left and dribbled down with a HM player chasing her and made a layup with 0.7 seconds left to win the game.

It was the Perfect Storm and the Simley girls accomplished an amazing feat of winning 3 away games and taking down Hill Murrary in their house. With fans screaming for both teams they held their composure and played one of their best games of the season. The result is CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS.

The team played nearly a perfect game. Simley shot 65% for the game and 50% from 3pt line.
– Zareia shot 10 for 12, 2 for 3 on 3pt, 5 for 5 on FT, finished with 27 points
– Sydney shot 6 for 10, 5 for 8 on 3pt, 2 for 3 on FT, finished with 19 points
– Chomp shot 4 for 4, finished with 10 points

The coaches are so proud of how hard the team has worked and pushed each other. There were a few emotional speeches in the locker room after the game which exemplifies why you play High School team sports. We shouted out to the JV team for constantly pushing the varsity team, without it we are not in this position. The teams for supporting each other through out the entire season.

Thank you fans for making the Hill Murray game feel like a home game for us. The Simley fans and bench were very loud and the ending certainly capped off the night.
