Spartans News · Spartan Boys, Alvear win at St. Croix Bluffs

On a near perfect September morning, the Simley Cross Country teams competed in
their first of four meets at St. Croix Bluffs Park. Competing against Hill-Murray
and North, the boys took home their first victory in at least 15 years!
Using team pack running, the Spartans dominated with 17pts
(remember that low score wins and 15 is a perfect score).
Senior captain Gabe Alvear dominated with his best performance in two years
with the individual victory in 18:20. Kaiden Schrandt and Jacob Scheffer finished
in 2nd and 3rd, with Senior captain Hank Cleary and Nathan Schauer in 5th and 6th.
Hunter Aamot and Griffin Wormer rounded out the pushing with 12th and 13th
place performances.
In the 2nd "jv" wave, Blake Stinnett and Sam Wagenknecht led the way with big PRs
over about 1:30 each to take 2nd and 4th. Jonas Frahm led many of his younger
teammates to great races in their first 5ks,
including Andres Bonilla Rios, Eli Wells, and Stephen Yassa, while Ben Maki took
almost 7 minutes off his best time ever!

The girls used the same team strategy to finish 3 points behind Hill-Murray,
but with faster times than they did a week ago from all five runners.
Senior Captain Brekken Grathen finished 3rd, followed by Abi Lindquist, Julia Myers,
and Crystal Bonilla Rios in 4th, 6th, and 7th.
Heidi O'Donnell rounded out the team scoring with a 9th place finish in
her 5k debut and senior Anna Cheyne pr'd by 8 seconds

The Spartans next race is the Metro East Conference Preview on Sept. 26th
