Watertown-Mayer High School
Simley High School
Today’s game consisted of back and forth scoring between the Spartans and Watertown-Mayer Royals. Junior goalkeeper Annabelle Eddy showcased her athleticism by doing the splits in the first half to save a shot on goal. Despite having a strong wind at their back and controlling much of the possession, the Spartans entered halftime locked at a 0-0 tie. With eight minutes left in regulation, junior Natalie Leeder found the back of the net on a beautiful shot from distance. Unfortunately with 40 seconds remaining before the end of the game, the Royals were able to knock in a goal. Two minutes into the first 5 minute overtime, junior Lexi Reichenbach dribbled her way into the Royals’ penalty box and drove a well place shot beyond the reach of the Royals’ keeper. With less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, the Spartans were called for a foul outside the box which the Royals were able to convert for their second goal of the game. The Spartans play again on Tuesday night hosting St. Paul Highland Park at 7pm in a non-conference battle between two of the 16 teams in Section 3A.
